An extraordinary matched pair of substantial antique brass table lamps, distinguished by their sculptural double-gourd forms, beautifully preserved hand-engraved decoration, and exceptional weight and presence.
The original engraved imagery incorporates a series of chinoiserie-inspired scenes, including bamboo and reeds, birds, mountains, trees, waterfalls, pagoda architecture, and tranquil landscapes. These carefully incised vignettes continue around the rounded brass bodies, giving the lamps visual interest from multiple viewing angles.
Both lamps are exceptionally heavy and nonmagnetic, with substantial brass construction. No maker’s mark has been located. Based on their construction, original decorative treatment, proportions, and earlier electrical components, they are believed to date to the early 20th century; the precise maker and date remain unconfirmed.
Aside from a light, conservative polish, the brass bodies are offered in their original condition. Their mellow aged-brass surfaces, subtle tonal variation, and naturally developed patina have been intentionally preserved rather than stripped or aggressively refinished.
Each lamp has been thoughtfully updated for continued use with a new three-way socket assembly, new electrical wiring, a new traditional brown lamp cord, and a new four-slot adjustable harp. The adjustable harps allow the shades to be raised or lowered to suit the purchaser’s preferred presentation.
The pair is completed with new handsewn taupe linen pagoda shades and sculptural antique-brass birds-in-tree finials. The unusual four-sided shades feature square tops, concave panels, tailored vertical corner seams, and dramatically shaped lower edges that dip gently across each panel before rising into four outward-flaring pagoda corners. Their warm taupe coloration provides a sophisticated contrast against the aged brass while allowing the original engraved designs to remain the visual focus.
The nature-themed finials were selected specifically to echo the birds, trees, bamboo, and landscape imagery engraved into the original lamp bodies. Together, the taupe pagoda shades and sculptural finials give the pair a cohesive designer presentation without compromising their authentic antique character.
These commanding statement lamps would be particularly striking on a pair of substantial nightstands, at opposite ends of a long console, in a library, or within a sophisticated living room. Their combination of scale, weight, original engraved decoration, preserved patina, updated electrical components, and distinctive pagoda shades makes them an especially memorable matched pair.
Approximate dimensions of each assembled lamp:
• 30 in. H × 16 in. W × 16 in. D
• Brass lamp-body height: 17 in.
• Base diameter: 6 in.
• Adjustable harp: up to 10 in.
• Shade: 6 in. top × 16 in. bottom × 12 in. H
• Finial: approximately 3 in. H × 2 in. W
Sold as a matched pair with the new shades, adjustable harps, and coordinating finials included.

Very good antique condition, consistent with age and normal use. The substantial brass lamp bodies remain in their original condition and retain their original hand-engraved chinoiserie decoration. Aside from a light, conservative polish, the brass has not been stripped, painted, lacquered, or aggressively refinished. The surfaces display a naturally developed patina, subtle oxidation, tonal variation, faint surface marks, and other minor evidence of age and handling. These characteristics are visible primarily upon close inspection and contribute to the lamps’ authentic antique appearance. No significant cracks, dents, deep scratches, structural damage, or material losses were observed. The bases are stable, and the engraved designs remain clear and well preserved. Both lamps have been updated with new three-way socket assemblies, new electrical wiring, new traditional brown lamp cords, and new four-slot adjustable harps. New Aspen Creative taupe linen pagoda shades and new Royal Designs antique-brass birds-in-tree finials are included. The shades are new and in excellent condition. Because of their four-sided construction and outward-flaring pagoda corners, the shades may be shipped separately from the brass lamp bodies to protect their distinctive profiles during transit. As with all antique and vintage lighting, professional inspection appropriate to the purchaser’s location and intended use is recommended.
