The table is particularly attractive because the decorative treatment changes from one side to the other. One apron features a deeply carved radiating sunburst or fan design framed by stepped architectural carving, while the reverse presents a more restrained stepped geometric apron. Substantial squared legs with notched details give the table the strong architectural character associated with traditional New Mexican furniture.

The solid wood top retains visible natural grain, knots and character, complementing the warm, understated finish. The underside bears the workshop notation “#1658 MDG.”

Ernest Thompson Furniture is an Albuquerque-based maker known for handcrafted furniture rooted in New Mexico's centuries-old furniture-making traditions. The company continues to use traditional woodworking and carving techniques in its New Mexico workshop.
