A striking Chinese heart-shaped carved cinnabar lacquer (tihong) box, densely carved in high relief across the lid with a dragon and phoenix intertwined among scrolling peonies — the classic "dragon and phoenix" motif symbolizing perfect harmony, marital bliss, and prosperity.
The deep vermilion red lacquer is carved in fine detail: the dragon's scales, the phoenix's layered wing feathers, and the ruffled peony petals are all crisply rendered, with the ground filled with continuous scrolling foliage. The heart-shaped form adds a romantic, decorative touch that sets it apart from round or rectangular boxes.
The box opens with a fitted lid, lined inside (as shown in additional photos), and is perfect for jewelry, a love letter, rings, or a small treasured keepsake. Its vivid red tone makes it a beautiful gift piece — especially for Valentine's Day, anniversaries, or as a Chinoiserie accent on a vanity or coffee table.
