Striking pair of monumental vintage table lamps crafted from molded white milk glass with beautifully aged brass-tone fittings.
The architectural glass bodies feature tall, tapered fluted columns that flare gracefully into broad bell-shaped bases. At an impressive 38 inches to the tops of the finials, with 21-inch-high glass bodies and 7-inch-diameter bases, the lamps have an unusually elegant, elongated scale and substantial presence.
Above the glass, elaborate metal fittings feature pierced galleries, decorative key-forms and richly patinated brass-tone hardware. The fittings reference traditional oil and kerosene lamp construction and provide a handsome contrast to the crisp white milk glass.
The distinctive glass form closely relates to documented early 20th-century English milk glass lamps, although this pair is unmarked and no specific maker or country of origin is attributed.
A sophisticated and unusually substantial matched pair with a strong architectural silhouette, equally suited to traditional, Neoclassical and collected eclectic interiors.
