Large-scale wooden figural octant with painted degree scale.
Standing nearly four feet tall, this oversize representation of a navigator's octant was crafted as a display or educational piece, evoking the precision instruments used in seafaring navigation. Constructed from wood with a boldly arched quadrant, the piece features a hand-painted degree scale running from 0° to 90°. While non-functional, its exaggerated form emphasizes the iconic silhouette of the traditional octant-an essential tool for determining latitude by celestial observation. Such large figural renderings were often used in classrooms, maritime exhibits, or as theatrical props, celebrating nautical heritage through outsized scale.
