Painted directly … Read more A one-of-a-kind original work of art by American painter and printmaker Mark Sabin, created in the early 2000s. Painted directly onto a glazed ceramic plate, the composition features a striking winged figure holding two geometric staffs, framed by a rhythmic border of expressive faces and hands. Saturated peach, yellow, blue, and red tones give the piece a vibrant folk-modern presence.

This is an original hand-painted artwork, not a print or reproduction. Signed “Sabin” on the front and fitted with mounting hardware for immediate wall display.

Born in New York City in 1936 and raised in Florida, Sabin developed a distinctive visual language combining primitive and surrealist influences with flattened forms, vivid color, and dreamlike imagery. He spent much of his career between New York City and East Hampton, and his work is represented in the permanent collection of the American Folk Art Museum.

The plate was commissioned for the Hamptons’ Artists Against Abuse benefit plate auction supporting The Retreat, an East End nonprofit providing services for survivors of domestic violence and abuse. Participating artists transformed individual ceramic plates into unique works of art for the charity auction.

Acquired from a private South Florida estate collection of plates from the benefit.
