A “Vienna” table designed by Peter Noever for Zanotta in the late 1970s, characterised by the combination of a large circular granite top and a central white-painted metal base. The design combines the solidity and material presence of stone with an essential structure, defined by clear proportions and a distinctive relief-decorated pedestal.
The perfectly circular top is made of grey granite, with its characteristic speckled texture clearly visible across the surface and along the thickness of the edge. It is supported by a single cylindrical central column terminating in a broad, slightly conical circular base. The surface of the pedestal is articulated by a series of radial ribs extending from the centre towards the perimeter, introducing a graphic and three-dimensional element into an otherwise extremely restrained structure.
The contrast between the substantial stone top and the white base gives the table a balanced presence, with the visual weight of the granite seemingly lightened by the central support. The radial pattern of the base becomes the principal identifying feature of the design and highlights Noever’s interest in the relationship between form, material and structure, resulting in a functional table with a strong architectural identity.
