The upper section is enclosed by a pair of glazed doors, each incorporating finely carved and pierced decorative glazing bars with scrolling and Oriental-inspired detailing. The doors open to reveal a fabric-lined display interior fitted with three adjustable shelves, allowing the internal arrangement to be altered to suit a variety of objects. Above, the cabinet is surmounted by an elaborate pierced and carved gallery with sweeping scrollwork, urn finials and a bold central foliate crest. Further decorative carving runs beneath the cornice, adding to the richly detailed appearance. The lower section is equally impressive, with a shaped and moulded apron centred by a carved foliate motif. The cabinet is raised on four square supports enriched with carved lattice panels and flowerhead decoration, with pierced corner brackets beneath the apron. The legs are united by an elaborate scrolling stretcher centred by a small rectangular platform. A particularly decorative example of the late Victorian revival of the Chinese Chippendale style, combining practical display space with an impressive and highly ornamental design.
