It is made of papier mache and although beautiful it does show use. I would guestimate the age on this is most likely pre-1900. It has a little key attached to the center compartment for locking in the most valuable of the spices. There are 11 little boxes and one box a bit larger at the bottom of the open cabinet. The center door has the locking key and does not slide out. The floral designs and painting are so pretty, and in relatively good shape. I've taken photos of the damage on the papier mache with some chips, bumps, rubs and a bit that has had a bit more damage but has not affected the integrity of the cabinet. I am also unsure of the location where this piece was made. My best guess would be Spanish, Moorish or Middle Eastern. It would be a terrific addition to a kitchen or pantry for use and display. I doubt restoration is needed as it is very pretty as is. The doors and drawers open fine. There is just the one location on the foot that has separated a bit from the other side. Doesn't affect the use. less
