William Thompson Van Zandt (1819-1890), oil on panel of an unknown lady at the garden gate. Fashionable scene of a maiden with hat in hand having a day in the country. Classic setting for the landed gentry of the day. A society painter of some renown in his younger days, and later manager of the family estate and active in the Underground Railroad.
The oil on panel is unsigned and the attribution to Van Zandt is written on the back. A modern frame on the panel.
The measurements are 14.5" by 16.5" framed. The panel is 10" by 12.5"
