Constructed in solid pine, the dresser features a tall boarded plate rack with three display shelves above a substantial lower cupboard. The cornice is the focal point: pierced geometric fretwork flanks the hand-cut date “18 ♥ 85,” giving the piece a distinctive vernacular quality and suggesting it may have been made to commemorate a marriage, household, or other significant event. I would describe it as Continental/Northern European rather than definitively English or Welsh until provenance is established; dated and heart-decorated furniture is particularly associated with European folk traditions.

The lower case has two drawers with simple wooden knobs over a pair of paneled cupboard doors. The doors are especially attractive, with applied geometric moldings forming octagonal panels and carved triangular corner details.
