A dramatic Neoclassical figural torchère floor lamp depicting Mercury, or Hermes, the classical messenger of the gods. The dynamic sculptural figure is recognizable by his winged helmet, winged foot details, and traditional caduceus.
Mercury/Hermes is depicted in an elegant upward-reaching pose, holding aloft an ornate torch fitted with a beautiful frosted flame-form glass shade. The richly detailed pedestal features classical relief decoration, including sculptural figures and scrolling motifs, creating an exceptionally decorative architectural presence.
Finished in a warm aged gilt tone, the lamp has wonderful depth, texture and patina throughout. It functions equally well as lighting and as a substantial piece of sculptural art.
A magnificent statement piece for a grand foyer, entry hall, library, living room, staircase landing or Palm Beach–style interior. Particularly suited to Neoclassical, Hollywood Regency, European traditional and maximalist interiors.
