A beautifully engineered 1960s Danish Modern teak media bookcase and credenza designed by Carlo Jensen for Hundevad & Co., Denmark. Combining display, record storage, media organization and concealed cabinetry in one remarkably streamlined piece, this is an exceptional example of the highly functional modular furniture for which postwar Danish design became celebrated.
The two-piece construction consists of a tall open bookcase resting upon a low sliding-door credenza. The upper section offers extensive adjustable shelving, including finely finished shelves with subtly beveled front edges. The shelving configuration can be altered to accommodate books, art objects, records or media equipment, while integrated openings along the rear allow electrical cords to pass discreetly behind the unit.
The lower credenza is fitted with two beautifully understated sliding teak doors with Carlo Jensen's characteristic elongated recessed pulls. Behind the doors is a contrasting pale birch interior incorporating an ingenious system of adjustable storage components. Included is a removable pull-out tray/drawer that glides forward for convenient access and can be repositioned within the interior tracks.
The warm teak exterior displays particularly attractive natural grain throughout, with the restrained rectilinear architecture allowing the wood to remain the visual focus. The contrasting birch interior is a classic Scandinavian detail and speaks to the quality of the cabinetry even in areas normally hidden from view.
Designed as part of Hundevad's modular storage system, units of this type could be used individually or combined with complementary Hundevad sections to create a larger wall installation. Period examples of this configuration were specifically designed to accommodate records, stereo components and other media, making the piece unusually adaptable to contemporary use as a library, record cabinet, media center or display unit.
The reverse retains the Hundevad / Furniture Made in Denmark marking.

There is a small veneer loss/chip at one edge/joint as photographed, along with minor scratches to horizontal surfaces. Interior shows light evidence of use. Some tonal variation is visible where adjustable shelving has historically shielded the teak from light exposure, characteristic of naturally photo-reactive teak.
