Carved from a substantial solid block of richly figured dark marble, the piece features dramatic white, gray, and warm amber veining that makes every angle visually distinctive. Its low, architectural profile, deeply recessed bowl, and generously rounded rim recall the celebrated stone designs of Italian architect Angelo Mangiarotti. Beautifully polished throughout, the ashtray has a wonderful weight and presence, functioning equally well as a catchall or purely decorative object. An exceptional accent for a coffee table, desk, or console, combining the natural beauty of marble with the bold, restrained geometry associated with Italian modernist design of the period.
