The upper display section is enclosed by a single continuous pane of glass that raises vertically with the assistance of an internal weight-and-pulley mechanism concealed within the case. The substantial lower section incorporates six dovetailed drawers flanking a pair of sliding cabinet doors, providing storage for inventory, supplies, or merchandising materials. A projecting work surface, molded cornice, paneled construction, and richly figured wood veneer contribute to the cabinet's impressive commercial presence.

Counter-balanced display cases of this type were designed to maximize visibility while allowing clerks quick access to merchandise without the need for hinged doors that projected into busy retail spaces. The surviving pulley and weight system remains a notable feature and demonstrates the ingenuity of early twentieth-century store fixture design.
