Decorative Japanese ceremonial floor cushion of the haishiki type, also known as terayō zabuton, dating from the 1980s.
Dimensions: height 8 cm, width 68 cm, depth 64 cm.
The cushion has a low, almost square shape and is covered in rich brocade in deep purple-blue tones, combined with gold and silver-coloured floral motifs. The pattern features large chrysanthemum-like kiku medallions, white flower motifs and elegant karakusa scrollwork, giving the piece a luxurious and distinctly Japanese appearance.
The fabric changes beautifully with the light and has a subtle sheen. The corners are finished with blue cords, a detail that enhances the ceremonial character of the piece.
This type of cushion was used in Japan for formal sitting or kneeling, for example during rituals, meditation or in front of a low altar. Today, it also works beautifully as a decorative floor cushion, meditation cushion or rich textile accent in a Japanese, wabi-sabi, eclectic or maximalist interior.
The cushion is in very good condition.
An atmospheric Japanese textile object with beautiful colour, sheen and decorative strength.
