A dramatic panorama of one of Napoleon's most celebrated victories — the Battle of Aboukir (Abu Qir) of 25 July 1799, in which Napoleon decisively defeated the Ottoman forces in Egypt. This original copper plate engraving with hand colouring was engraved by Dequévauviller after a drawing by Jacques-François-Joseph Swebach (1769–1823), one of the foremost French painters of military scenes — published in Paris in the 1810s–1820s by Couché fils as part of a series documenting the key events of the Napoleonic campaigns.
Comes ready to hang in its original vintage Italian frame. A companion piece to the Napoleon's Abdication at Fontainebleau print (also available in this shop) — the two prints form a matched pair from the same Couché fils publication series. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
from
misattribution
