One of the most consequential moments in European history — rendered in meticulous copper plate engraving with original hand colouring. This print depicts Napoleon's farewell at the Château de Fontainebleau on 20 April 1814, as he addresses his Imperial Guard before departing for exile on the island of Elba. It is an original impression engraved by François Pigeot and published in Paris by Couché fils in the 1810s–1820s as part of a series documenting the key events of the Napoleonic campaigns.
Comes ready to hang in its original vintage Italian frame. A companion piece to the Battle of Aboukir print (also available in this shop) — the two prints form a matched pair from the same Couché fils publication series. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
