an exceptional dutch haagse school armchair, handcrafted by the renowned l.o.v. (labor omnia vincit) furniture factory in oosterbeek, the netherlands, dating from the 1920s.

founded in 1910 by gerrit pelt, l.o.v. Became one of the most respected dutch furniture manufacturers of the early twentieth century. Guided by the motto labor omnia vincit (“labour conquers all”), the company produced furniture that combined honest craftsmanship, functional design and architectural simplicity. Many influential dutch designers contributed to the factory, including f. Spanjaard, h.f. Mertens, j. Krouwel and j.a. Van muntendam.

this armchair beautifully reflects the ideals of the dutch haagse school. The solid oak frame is distinguished by its strong geometric proportions, elegant vertical slats and broad architectural armrests. One of its most remarkable features is the suspended upholstered backrest, secured with visible hand-laced cords running through the wooden uprights—an ingenious construction that is both decorative and functional.

the warm oak has developed a beautiful rich patina over the decades, while the soft velvet upholstery in a muted olive-beige tone complements the robust architectural character of the chair perfectly.

the chair remains in very good vintage condition, showing only minor signs of age and use consistent with its nearly century-old history. The solid oak construction is sturdy and stable, with an attractive aged patina. The upholstery presents well and is ready for use.
