A beautiful and exceptionally comfortable set of four Dutch Art Deco armchairs, dating from the 1930s.
The chairs feature robust yet elegant oak frames with distinctive gently curved armrests and a strong architectural silhouette. The geometric construction of the backrests, combined with the softly rounded arms and generously upholstered seating, creates a particularly inviting and comfortable form.
The warm stone-orange to rust-coloured textured upholstery provides a striking contrast to the rich, naturally grained oak and enhances the characteristic warmth of the design. The upholstery is framed with subtle decorative piping, adding a refined period detail to the otherwise clean and understated construction.
The design reflects the Dutch Art Deco tradition of the 1930s, with influences from the broader Dutch modernist and Haagse School aesthetic: balanced proportions, expressive wood grain, geometric detailing and an emphasis on both craftsmanship and comfort.
The original designer or manufacturer is unknown; no maker’s mark or manufacturer’s label is present.
The chairs are suitable as dining armchairs, occasional chairs or as comfortable seating in a living room, study or reception setting.
Very well preserved overall, with the expected minor signs of use and patina consistent with their age and history. Please refer to the photographs for the detailed condition and appearance.
A characterful and unusually comfortable set of period Dutch Art Deco armchairs, combining sculptural oak construction with warm, richly coloured upholstery.
