Created for the celebrated French silversmith Christofle in the 1920s, the Boréal pattern is distinguished by its clean geometric lines, subtly faceted handles and architectural stepped terminals. The restrained decoration gives the design a remarkably modern appearance and makes Boréal one of Christofle’s most recognizable Art Deco flatware patterns.

Christofle records identify Boréal as a design by Luc Lanel and note that the pattern was presented at the 1937 International Exhibition of Arts and Techniques in Modern Life in Paris.

This set comprises 37 pieces for twelve place settings:

12 table forks – 8.1 in. (20.5 cm)
12 tablespoons – 8.1 in. (20.5 cm)
12 teaspoons – 5.3 in. (13.5 cm)
1 large serving ladle – 13 in. (33 cm)

Please note that this set does not include knives.

The pieces bear Christofle maker’s and silverplate hallmarks. The markings visible on the flatware are consistent with Christofle silver-plated production of the mid-20th century.

The set is presented in a fitted green Christofle case with cream interior compartments and satin lining bearing the Christofle name. The front edge of the case is marked “33 Boul.d des Italiens – Paris,” referring to Christofle’s historic Paris address.

The silver-plated surfaces retain an attractive overall shine and show fine scratches, minor tarnishing and signs of use consistent with age. No major deformation is apparent. The fitted case also shows surface wear, scratches and marks from age and storage. Please refer carefully to the detailed photographs.

A particularly elegant example of French Art Deco table design, combining the craftsmanship of Christofle with the modernist aesthetic of Luc Lanel.
