A handsome matching pair of vintage French Provincial and Directoire-style armchairs, likely dating to the late 20th century. Each chair features a warm brown-finished wood frame, gently curved crest rail, shaped open arms, tapered front legs, and woven cane panels along both sides.
The chairs are upholstered in a traditional multicolored striped textile incorporating burgundy red, forest green, black, gold, tan, and gray tones. Tall upholstered backs and generously padded seat cushions create a substantial, comfortable silhouette.

Both chairs require reupholstering and additional attention before regular use. They are being sold in their present, unrestored condition. The striped upholstery exhibits significant age-related wear, including fraying, open and separating seams, loose fabric, exposed edges, worn piping, pulling, and deterioration around portions of the upholstered backrests and cushions. The most noticeable separation appears around the upper edges and sides of the backrest upholstery. Several areas no longer sit securely against the frames. The cushion upholstery also displays general wear, compression, distortion, and worn edges. Previous repairs or altered sections may be present. Because the upholstery is compromised in several areas, complete professional reupholstering is recommended rather than isolated cosmetic repair. The interior padding and support materials should be evaluated by the upholsterer during that process. The wood frames show numerous scratches, scuffs, finish losses, rubbed areas, marks, small nicks, and general wear throughout, particularly along the arms, legs, crest rails, and lower frame edges. The finish has visible variation and an aged appearance. The woven cane side panels remain largely present, but they show age-related wear and should be examined carefully before regular use. No guarantee is made that every strand is secure or free of minor damage. Both chairs squeak or make audible noises when sat upon or when weight is applied.
