Dozens of fish … Read more A whimsical pictorial runner in the folk-art fish design, hand-knotted in northern Afghanistan from hand-spun Ghazni wool. Dozens of fish swim across a deep brick-red ground with no border to hold them in: striped, spotted, scaled and plain, each drawn by hand and no two alike, in rose pink, sage green, teal, navy, cream, ochre and chocolate brown, with little clusters of bubbles rising between them. Look closely and a few have the round eyes and grins of a child's drawing, which is exactly the charm of the piece.

Vegetable dyes give the red its depth and soft tonal variation. A playful runner for a hallway, kitchen, mudroom, bathroom, nursery or lake house, and a natural fit for coastal, eclectic, boho and folk-art interiors, or anywhere a serious room needs one piece that doesn't take itself seriously.
