The dramatic composition features Uncle Sam holding a rifle beneath a sweeping American flag, with a young man and woman incorporated into the flag above. A detailed military encampment with soldiers, tents, and additional patriotic imagery fills the lower portion of the scene.

The artwork is attributed to Italian illustrator Ezio Anichini and is a compelling example of early 20th-century American patriotic poster art.

One of the standout features of this particular example is its exceptionally strong color retention. The reds, blues, and overall contrast remain vivid and visually rich for a paper lithograph dating to 1917. Many surviving examples of this image show substantial fading, making the preserved color of this piece especially appealing.

The lower portion retains the printed title:

“THE LOVE OF FREEDOM”

as well as the original copyright line:

“COPYRIGHT 1917 BY M.A. STERN, CHICAGO”

The artwork measures approximately 20" high × 16" wide and is currently displayed beneath glass with a foam-board backing.

There is age-related toning, light creasing, and surface wear consistent with a piece more than a century old. The image remains complete and presents beautifully overall.
