Octavo Lithograph from John James Audubon's The Quadrupeds of North America. This work was published in New York between 1849 and 1854. We offer it with the original description pages from the work.
Quadrupeds of North America was Audubon's final great natural history work. His animal drawings still are considered some of the finest prints published in America. This work's folio edition marked the first time that America's animals were described and illustrated in one publication. This octavo publication continued that effort.
John James Audubon and his son, John Woodhouse, drew all of the quadrupeds in the work. Victor Gifford Audubon drew the backgrounds for many of the prints.
