Vintage Post Modern Michael Graves Chess Set, Maple Board
Offered for sale is an iconic 1990s Michael Graves Chess Set featuring a maplewood storage board and abstract, minimalist pieces. Created by the renowned American architect and designer Michael Graves, the board is made from two-toned maplewood and has a built-in, velvet-lined storage compartment inside the base The pieces are crafted in a postmodern geometric style using black and white resin or composite materials. The underside of the box is marked "Graves".
The set box is 18 inches wide by 18 inches deep by 2.75 inches high. When playing, the height is 5.75" high. The playable chessboard surface itself measures roughly 16.5 to 17 inches square. The King stands 3 inches tall with a 1.75-inch base, while the pawns measure 1 inch tall.
