A unique, original stool/ottoman crafted by m. Hayat & bros. Ltd. Of peshawar, pakistan, a renowned manufacturer of high-quality handmade furniture that has been in business since the 19th century.
the piece most likely dates from the mid-20th century, around the 1950s–1960s, and exemplifies the combination of fine wood, handcrafted construction, and natural leather characteristic of m. Hayat & bros.
the stool features an exceptionally interesting design. Slender, contoured legs are connected to a solid, sculpturally crafted frame, over which a wide panel of natural leather is stretched. The leather is secured using a traditional method involving leather straps and metal fasteners. Distinctive cutouts and hand-rounded structural details highlight the piece’s artisanal character.
the most important element confirming its origin is the preserved aluminum manufacturer’s plate:

the plate remains attached to the original structural element. It is mounted upside down, which is a visible, historical detail of its construction and does not affect the authenticity of the marking.
the piece retains its original leather with a natural patina and signs of wear, giving it an authentic vintage character. The leather has not been replaced or artificially aged. Visible signs of aging should be regarded as evidence of the item’s authenticity and history.
m. Hayat & bros. Is a well-documented furniture manufacturer from peshawar. The collector’s market features furniture signed by the company, made of fine wood and leather, including safari/campaign chairs, stools, and other distinctive pieces from the mid-20th century.
this piece stands out for its unusual, highly decorative form and the beautiful combination of wood and natural, aged leather. It is an interesting piece both for a collector of vintage furniture and for an elegant, contemporary interior.
