Designed in the architectural manner characteristic of the Louis XVI tradition, the table combines the warmth and richness of figured walnut with refined brass accents and a pale marble surface, creating a sophisticated piece suitable for an entrance hall, drawing room, dining room, or formal living space.

The rectangular top is fitted with a substantial white and gray-veined marble slab, recessed neatly within the surrounding framework rather than simply resting upon it. The naturally variegated marble displays delicate gray and charcoal veining against a softly mottled white ground. Surrounding the marble is a narrow brass gallery, delicately pierced with a repeating pattern and rising slightly along the back and sides, with shaped returns at the front corners. This gallery provides both an ornamental border and a practical raised edge.

Beneath the marble is a beautifully constructed walnut case containing two broad drawers. Each drawer front is framed by fine molded borders and displays attractive variations in the walnut grain. Angular brass bail handles with geometric backplates reinforce the table's neoclassical character, while individual escutcheons emphasize its original functional purpose. Between the drawers and at either end are narrow vertical fluted panels, introducing the classical architectural vocabulary so closely associated with Louis XVI furniture.

The case is supported on four tall, slender, tapering fluted legs, each beginning beneath a turned capital-like collar accented with brass. The restrained fluting visually lengthens the supports and gives the substantial upper case an unusually light appearance. Small brass-capped feet provide a subtle finishing detail.

A particularly useful feature is the expansive lower walnut shelf, extending almost the full width of the table and joining all four legs. Its broad polished surface provides ample room for books, decorative objects, baskets, or collections while also strengthening the table's architectural composition. A narrow brass molding along the shelf's front edge echoes the metallic detailing above.
