An exceptional pair of authentic, heavy cast iron bookends featuring a highly stylized "Leaping Gazelle" (Ibex) motif, manufactured by the legendary Littco (Littlestown Hardware & Foundry) during the 1920s-1930s Machine Age era.The figures capture the striking geometric grace of classic Art Deco animalier art. Elongated bodies are sculpted mid-leap over stylized stylized foliage and waves. The pair boasts a deep, dramatic gunmetal/black iron finish highlighted by original bronze-wash patina accents along the curves, horns, and base.The undersides reveal the classic hollow-core foundry technique characteristic of early Littco pieces. One bookend retains its original vintage brown felt bottom lining, while the other is open, beautifully showcasing the raw antique casting. Heavy, completely stable, and fully functional as structural bookends or stately desk sculptures.
