The sofa features dramatic hand-carved Sphinx-form arm supports, finished in deep green with parcel-gilt details. The architectural frame is painted in a softly aged pale finish with gilt accents and elaborate carved decoration throughout, including classical figures, foliate motifs, stars and a central medallion.

A pediment-form crest crowns the back with opposing winged figures flanking a classical urn, adding to the sofa’s strong Gustavian and Empire-era neoclassical character. The pale upholstered seat, back and curved arms feature a delicate repeating starburst motif that complements the carved decoration beautifully.
