About the Artwork:
An exceptional, one-of-a-kind monotype by the late, influential African American artist, curator, and art historian Dr. Michael D. Harris. Signed and dated "D. Harris 1993" and inscribed "Good Goddess" 1/1 by the artist’s hand along the bottom margin.Executed in 1993—a seminal year in the artist's career when he was heavily immersed in researching African spiritual iconographies for the Smithsonian Institution—this piece boasts the signature warm-toned, texturally rich visual language that defined his involvement with the landmark Black Arts movement collective, AfriCOBRA. The piece beautifully blends rhythmic, stylized figures with musical motifs and expressive, layered strokes.
The Provenance & Frame:
The back of the frame bears a fascinating historical inscription: "Frame by: Jenni Lolan 1995". This gorgeous, vibrant custom outer frame mimics and amplifies the artwork's intrinsic rhythm with an artisanal, hand-painted geometric border accented by structural wooden tacks. The verso features professional copper tension tabs and a standard wire mounting layout, perfectly preserving the backing over the last three decades.
