Made in Japan of turned wood with hand-painted faces, colorful traditional-inspired dress and wonderfully varied forms, including a mother with child and an unusual figure seated in a bowl. Kokeshi originated as wooden folk dolls in Japan's Tohoku region and later became popular travel souvenirs and collectibles; creative forms flourished during the postwar period. An appealing tiny collection for Japanese folk art, Japandi, MCM, wabi-sabi or curio décor.
