Decorative panels, flowers, trailing vines, and other painted motifs cover the façade, while a central panel includes a name and the date 1836, indicating that the trunk was likely created as a wedding or dowry gift.
Teal green is the dominant color, joined by aged red, cream, and green accents that give the painted surface tremendous depth. Generations of wear have distressed much of the original finish down to the natural pine beneath, particularly across the top.
Original hand wrought iron handles remain along the sides. The original key is also included, though it now serves primarily as a decorative element because the lid can be opened without operating the locking mechanism. The interior contains a small private storage compartment and an open tray along the upper back.
Scratches, nicks, gouges, cracks, and other signs of age are visible throughout. The lower right corner trim has a missing section that has since been sanded smooth. Residual signs of old wormhole activity are present but are dry and inactive. Age related separation is visible between the planks along the interior bottom. These signs of wear reflect generations of use and do not impact function. Restored, waxed, and ready to use.
