Antique mechanical pull-chain alarm bell, c. 1920s–1940s, featuring a substantial 10" brass gong, red-painted cast-metal trip mechanism and original-style wood pull. Bells of this type were used in American schools, factories, municipal buildings and other large facilities before electric alarm systems became standard. Attributed to the G.C. Reiter/W.L. Jenkins tradition of mechanical trip gongs, manufactured in the United States. The mechanism remains operational and produces an exceptionally loud, resonant ring. Excellent industrial, schoolhouse, firehouse or architectural décor.
