Instead of … Read more This is a hand-knotted Turkish Sparta (Isparta) rug from the 1960s in a Persian Kerman-style all-over floral design. Instead of a center medallion, the whole field is a dense lattice of flowering vines, palmettes and tiny blossoms that repeat edge to edge. Isparta weavers were known for this kind of fine, detailed work, and the weave on this one is tight enough that the pattern reads almost like a print from across the room.

The colors have mellowed into a great vintage palette. The field is a faded brick red / terracotta, and the flowers are picked out in cornflower blue, teal, gold, sage green and cream. The ivory main border has rose-and-blue floral sprays between blue guard stripes with a thin salmon pink selvedge on the outside. Warm, a little moody, and it hides everything. This would be a workhorse rug in a living room, dining room or under a bed.



Condition: Good vintage condition with even, all-over low pile and a soft, faded, lived-in look throughout. A few small areas where the pile is a touch lower and the foundation shows through, consistent with age. No holes, tears, repairs or stains. Sides are secure and ends are finished with short fringe. Professionally washed and ready to use.
