Striking vintage pair of Chinese dimensional wall panels depicting an imperial emperor and empress in elaborate ceremonial dress. Individually carved and polychrome-painted soapstone elements are applied to deep black grounds, creating richly textured relief portraits with intricate incised detailing, gilt accents, and traditional Chinese motifs.
Each panel is framed in a dark wood frame and measures approximately 17" W × 24" H. The matched pair has wonderful depth and presence and works beautifully in a collected traditional, Hollywood Regency, Asian-inspired, or eclectic interior.
Vintage condition with age-appropriate wear and minor imperfections consistent with hand-finished decorative pieces. Please review photos closely for condition and details.
