The … Read more A striking yet gentle take on a circus clown (or pierrot*), in this unique and naive Folk Art painting. The young performer has a bright red face and neck with wide eyes, arched green eyebrows, and a white painted mouth area. He's wearing a pointed light green hat with a white brim and a green costume with large white ruffled collar, and two white circular buttons. Both hands are raised as if in mid act, adorned in white puffy gloves. The palms are facing outward in an expressive gesture. The painting is signed JD on the bottom right hand corner. The painting is done on a very coarse aged canvas. We estimate it to be Early to Mid 20th Century.

We love this painting on its own or to be combined into a gallery wall. And we're sure it'll be a conversation piece.

*A Pierrot is a classic stock character from French pantomime and Italian commedia dell'arte who is best known as the archetypal sad, lovesick clown.
