Monumental vintage hand-carved solid wood fertility figure standing an impressive 51 inches tall. Sculpted from a substantial single mass of wood, the figure incorporates highly stylized male and female anatomical imagery into a dramatic vertical composition.
Bold geometric carving, deeply incised details and exaggerated figural forms give the sculpture a powerful Brutalist and folk-art presence. The naturally aged wood displays beautiful grain, warm brown coloration and a richly weathered surface developed over time.
The sculpture retains numerous age-related cracks, checking, abrasions and surface losses, particularly toward the lower portion. These characteristics add considerable texture and authenticity to its primitive hand-carved appearance. It is currently displayed on a later clear acrylic base.
A commanding statement sculpture suitable for an entryway, great room, library or collection of global, tribal and ethnographic-inspired art.
