The state of preservation is good, except for a small tear on the right margin and on the higher left corner. On the lower center, it is signed “Zeglio” in China ink, while “quel che ti pare” is written in pencil on the lower right. At the bottom of the drawing, “Biennale Venezia” is written in pencil. Primo Zeglio was an Italian film director and playwright, as well as a draftsman, painter, and engraver. Between 1937 and 1939, he collaborated with the weekly publication Omnibus, directed by Leo Longanesi, and worked with the artist Mino Maccari, who realized scathing satirical comic strips for Omnibus. Zeglio took part in the drafting of Italiano and Selvaggio and, especially from the 1970s, he dedicated himself mainly to painting and engraving. The style of the drawing Quel che ti pare shows a swift and scathing hatching reminiscent of the comic strips made by Mino Maccari. These are caricatures of two characters linked to Italian culture, whilst the ticket with the writing “Biennale Venezia” alludes to some events related to the important international art exposition. This is therefore an important artwork as a historical document of 20th-century Italian culture, apart from being fun and pleasant in the hatching and composition. This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died requires a licence for export regardless of the work’s market price. The shipping may require additional handling days to require the licence according to the final destination of the artwork. See less
