From a Distinguished Rancho Santa Fe Estate

A rare matched pair of palace-scale Chinese Famille Rose porcelain floor vases, each 36 inches high and 16 inches wide, presented on carved hardwood stands (overall height 44½ inches). Produced in the mid-20th century in the Qing revival manner, the vases are richly decorated on every surface with extensive gold gilt.

Each vase features two large landscape reserve scenes decorative paintings:

One side depicts a lotus pond with mandarin ducks among blooming lotus flowers, leaves, and butterflies — traditional symbols of harmony and fidelity.

The reverse shows golden pheasants among peonies and scholar’s rocks — emblems of beauty, rank, and prosperity.

Surrounding the pictorial reserves is a dense thousand-flowers (millefleur) pattern on a gold ground, filled with lotus, peonies, chrysanthemums, and blossoming branches in pink, light blue, yellow, and light green. Butterflies appear throughout. The necks are encircled by green acanthus-like leaves, with oval floral-and-bird reserves set against the gilt field. Below the neck runs a blue-ground scroll-pattern border, followed by a ruyi-shaped floral band. Gold gilt is used extensively across the grounds, borders, and details.

Sourced from a prominent Rancho Santa Fe estate in San Diego, these vases have been privately held and offer the scale and decorative richness typically reserved for grand interiors. Palace-size pairs of this height remain highly sought after as statement pieces for foyers, living rooms, or flanking a fireplace.
