Both Medusa and the box started out as … Read more Italian mid-century Medusa Trinacria, the Greek Gorgon, one of a kind box. Both Medusa and the box started out as 2 pieces. She was carved mid-century in SiciIy. I re-carved her face just enough to make her more beautiful, as she started out that way in her life, having always had compassion for her story. Then, added a natural Rose cut Emerald to her forehead, painted her irises green and then set 2 tiny black spinels to her eyes, giving her more of a connection to the viewer and commanding presence. Last photo is what she looked like before I changed her face.
I then added a bit of cerulean blue, gold and red to the vintage Florentine box also made by hand in Italy. The box has been re-lined by me with a fresh quilted red velvet.
The Triskelion, known in Sicily also as the Trinacria, is the three-legged woman that symbolises Sicily. First adopted in 1282 by the Sicilian Vespers.
In ancient times, the Greeks used her fearsome, snake-haired visage as a gorgoneion—a powerful talisman and protective charm meant to ward off evil and terrify enemies. box is 5.5 by 8 inches. Like you, this is a One of a Kind work of Art. See less
