Vintage hand-carved soapstone lidded box featuring a beautifully rendered feather motif carved in low relief across the top. Fine incised lines give the feather wonderful texture and definition, while the simple rectangular form keeps the piece sculptural and understated.
The natural stone has particularly attractive variation in shades of deep green, gray, celadon and creamy white, with mottling and veining continuing around the exterior and interior. The lid lifts completely away to reveal a carved stone compartment suitable for jewelry, keepsakes or other small objects.
With its substantial stone construction, beautifully aged surface and graphic feather carving, this is equally appealing used functionally or simply displayed as a decorative object on a desk, bedside chest, coffee table or bookshelf.
