The seat lifts to reveal a generous hidden storage compartment beneath, ideal for baskets, blankets, linens, pillows, or other household essentials. The slatted arms fold outward on articulated iron supports to convert the bench into a daybed — a clever construction that gives the piece an exceptionally versatile character showcasing the practical ingenuity of vernacular furniture.
