"One of America's most prominent 20th Century architects", Alfred Easton Poor (1899 - 1988) designed Brooklyn's Red Hook Houses c. 1938. Built as part of president Franklin D. Roosevelt's Works Progress Administration, this was one of the very first affordable public housing projects in the US. "Ground was broken on the 40-acre site on July 17, 1938. Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia laid the first cornerstone in a grand ceremony. The buildings were completed about a year later, with the first tenants moving in on June 30, 1939." (RedHookWaterfront.com)
Some of Easton's US government projects include: restoration and extension of the East Front of the US Capitol building, the US Library of Congress' James Madison Memorial Building.
In NYC: the Jacob K. Javits Federal Building, the Queens County Courthouse and prison in Kew Gardens, the Home Insurance Company Building, including the 40-acre Red Hook housing projects.

Original mounting board retains the label from the Architectural League of New York Annual Exhibition in 1938 as well as the black fabric binding at the bottom. It reads: "Red Hook Houses - Brooklyn NY Red Hook Project Associated Architects Red Easton Eclectus D.L." Vintage frame has been painted matte black and sealed. less
