We love a good secretary desk, and this one is about as handsome of an example, as we’ve ever seen. This remarkable piece is a 19th century Biedermeier Secretary or secrétaire à abattant (drop-front secretary desk) from southern Germany or northern Austria, dating from 1820s-1830s. We can only imagine the stories it holds

The secretary features beautifully book-matched veneer, and ebonized details in the Biedermeier style. Above, a drop-front secretary desk opens to reveal a delightful robin’s egg blue on the interior (BM Van Cortland Blue), and ample workspace, whether you're planning to work at a computer, or pen your next novel. The interior of the cabinet measures 47.25” w x 18” d x35.5”h. Below, two cabinet doors open to reveal an abundance of additional storage space.

Chamfered edges adorn the front two corners of the secretary, with the cabinet resting on block style feet. Original decorative escutcheon plates are all present, and the secretary even comes with two original skeleton keys which can be used to operate the antique locks.

We think that this piece would make a handsome addition to a library or study, and would be equally well-suited as a correspondence desk in a bedroom or living area. See less
