The sculptural tripod base is formed by three gracefully curved legs with a distinctive textured, scale-like surface. Delicate ornamental details and the elegant proportions give the lamp a refined and highly decorative character. The design is closely associated with the style of French designer and decorator Armand-Albert Rateau, whose work is known for its sophisticated combination of classical references, stylized natural forms and exceptional metalwork. A closely related example of this model has been offered at auction as a floor lamp in the style of Rateau. The lamp is complemented by a newly made custom fabric lampshade featuring a stylized swimmer and birds. Its warm earthy tones work particularly well with the aged patina of the iron base. A striking example of 1940s French decorative lighting, combining sculptural presence with an elegant and unusual design. The lamp can be extend up to 220cm in height.
