The … Read more A polychrome earthenware trumpet vase from Nevers, signed by Antoine Montagnon, illustrating the great Nevers tradition of cornucopia decoration. The wide, trumpet-shaped neck rests on a bulbous body accentuated by a turned knot with twisted yellow and black fluting, all on a matching circular foot.

The decoration, executed with great finesse, unfolds in polylobed reserves filled with stylized scrolls and acanthus leaves, in the famous "lambrequin" style favored by Nevers potteries since the 17th century. The rich and contrasting palette combines deep cobalt blue, antimony yellow, copper green, orange, and white, enhanced by mascaron motifs (small faces) nestled within the interlacing patterns. The neck is encircled by a frieze of black scrolls on a yellow background, beneath a midnight blue rim.
