A striking and exceptionally large mid-century decorative sculpture depicting Budai, the Laughing Buddha of prosperity and joy.

Crafted during the height of the 1960s orientalist design revival, this substantial piece is molded from high-quality, translucent resin formulated to emulate precious antique cherry amber.

When placed near a light source, the fiery crimson material exhibits magnificent depth and a radiant, gem-like glow.

The figure is beautifully cast with voluminous, flowing robes, a joyful expression, and a traditional strand of prayer beads. It sits perfectly flush atop its original, custom-fitted dark hardwood base featuring delicate cloud-scroll feet.

Excellent used vintage condition. The resin body retains its high-gloss luster with no deep scratches, chips, or clouding. There is some light surface dust and natural vintage residue built up inside the folds of the carving, which is common for a piece of this era. The wooden base is structurally sound and securely supports the sculpture. See less
