The piece most likely originates from France, presumably from the Normandy region, and exemplifies the French Country / Folk Art style characteristic of the French countryside.

The shelf features five small drawers with original wooden pulls and a bottom rail equipped with numerous wooden pegs, designed for hanging kitchen utensils, dishcloths, or other items. Its simple, functional form perfectly illustrates the utilitarian nature of old country furniture.

The beautiful, natural patina of the wood deserves special attention. Numerous signs of wear, scuffs, minor chips, and irregularities resulting from age and years of use are visible. These were not excessively removed during restoration, allowing the piece to retain its authentic, rustic character.

The back and some structural elements bear traces of past repairs and subsequent alterations. The condition should be described as good, appropriate for the age and character of the piece.

The shelf is not only a practical piece of furniture but, above all, a highly decorative example of French folk craftsmanship from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
