A striking late 19th-century Rococo Revival wall mirror featuring an exceptionally ornate, sculptural frame with an aged gilt/bronze-toned finish.
The tall rectangular frame is richly embellished with elaborate pierced Rococo ornament, including scrolling C-scrolls, foliate and floral motifs, and a dramatic central crest incorporating figural and foliate decoration. The extensive openwork ornament creates a beautiful three-dimensional silhouette, while the aged finish lends the piece the warmth and character of an antique decorative object.
The mirror glass is custom-cut to follow the shaped contours of the interior frame rather than being simply fitted as a conventional rectangle—an unusual detail that adds to the distinctive character of the piece. The frame projects approximately 3 inches from the wall, giving the elaborate ornament considerable depth and presence.
With its dramatic silhouette and richly decorative character, this mirror would make an impressive accent above a console, chest, fireplace, or in an entryway, hallway, or other space where an ornate focal point is desired. Particularly well suited to Rococo, Louis XV-inspired, traditional, French-inspired, eclectic, or maximalist interiors.
